The #DSTTchallenge deadline passed yesterday, and we’re busy deliberating with our guest judges, Julie Herman and Katy Jones, to pick the winners!

In the meantime, we’re sharing their would-be challenge quilts. Julie and Katy joined in on the fun to demonstrate their own take on the theme, and we love what they came up with.

First up is Julie of the popular pattern company and blog, Jaybird Quilts.

The quilt is a mashup of her Mini Radio Way + Science Fair patterns. Julie was inspired by the negative space modern element of her Science Fair quilt and the traditional rails of her Mini Radio Way quilt to craft a tetris-style take on the two quilts with their complementing modern and traditional elements.

Next up is Katy, of the blog Monkey Do! Katy is a big fan of Timeless basics, and features tons of them on her QNNTV show, Quilt Monkey. We knew Sketch would be making an appearance in her mini!

Katy’s mini uses a very traditional block, but the bright colors and use of novelty fabrics – as well as the informal setting of the classic square in a square block – also gives it a modern feel.

Check out her mini quilt below, and read more about it on her blog here. Check out our full Mini Series collection, too!
